Knowle Hospital Asylum
Over 5,000 patients were admitted to ‘Knowle Psychiatric Asylum’ between 1852 and 1996, who of which are buried in the asylum’s cemetery.
Thirteen years later the asylum grounds now exist as luxury apartments owned primarily by black suited workers.
As a resident of Knowle, I have witnessed the operation, the closure, and the redevelopment of the Asylum.
The rooms that still remain in their past state have been reclaimed by nature. I returned to photograph one such room, formerly a staff house I grew up in until closure.
I am witness to the conflict of past, present and future.
